Hi
Have been with ADSL24 since 6th Dec and can't fault the service etc but i seem to have a problem with my Belkin router its a F5D7632. when i,m surfing everything is ok but when i switch my PC off the router loses the connection and the only way to get back on again is to switch the router off at the wall leave it for a few minutes then switch it back on.Now is this just a settings issue or is my router knacked?.Any help would be great.
just a quick note my exchange is red if this may have anything to do with it..
Thanks
Mike

Are you able to inspect your router logs for any errors?
I cannot see the status of your exchange having anything to do with this.
Strange, but I cant see how turning a PC off will make a router turn off as well. Have you updated the routers firmware?
Look here: http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/tech/issues_more.asp

Hi
Thanks for the reply .Sorry what i meant was after switching my pc off and then turning it back on again the next day the router will not connect to the internet and the only way you can get it to is by switching the router off at the plug then turning back on after a minute or so.i am right in thinking that the router can be left on all the time and should hold a connection?
Mike
Hi Mike
The router is best left on 24/7 and it should hold the connection regardless of whether the PC is on or off.
As Brian said, it is weird how switching off the PC can affect the router, because it should'nt. Is the connection wired or wireless ? an do you have any other PCs using the router? i.e. networked

Hi Robbie
The router is connected to 2 pc's with network cables one of being used as a remote desktop for downloading. The wireless side is used for my laptop but not that often. It just seems strange that it use to hold a connection most of the time but now it won't which is a pain when you want to use the wireless and it won't connect until you have switched the router off and on again.Maybe i should just get one of these speedtouch routers everyone seems to rave about?.
Mike
Very strange Mike. I use a Belkin 7633, and never had any probs with it. I am considering getting a ST585 for a backup though.
I'm wondering if it may be your ethernet card playing up, that is the only gateway between the PC and the router

Hi Robbie
Getting a bit technical now but all i will say is i lose the adsl light on the router so i know there is no connection.
mike
Hi,
Are you using the master socket?
Are you running off an extension?
Have you tried another filter?
If you have extensions, are they filtered?
Best wishes.

Yes, it certainly should.
Hi Mike
Has this problem started as a result of changing ISP....If so, can we assume that you had no problems with your previous ISP. If this is the case it may be a conflict in your setup.
Regards your wireless setup, try cancelling any security protocols and see if it can connect by broadcasting SSID only.(if this works reset wpa and try again)
You can also set your Router to optain it's IP dynamically.
Set your DNS to 195.74.113.58
195.74.113.62
Is the Router still under guarantee.(some give 2years).If so give them a ring.
I had the same router which kept dropping connection they are known for over heating. So i bought a ST585 v6 its being fine since hope this helps

Hi Paul Again
Would it be worth trying to get a replacement from belkin as i think there stuff has a lifetime guarantee or will i end up with the same problem?.
Mike.

Hi Mike,
Have you tried upgrading the firmware on your router to the latest version?
I got mine new not b grade but i think there are still new just the box has being opened. I would not bother wth a new belkin as i replaced mine twice (after a month or two ended up with same fault as before)so took it back to argos and ended up getting my money back and got the st 585 v6 ( no problem yet
