hope this is in the right place, but it's just ocurred to me that although i requested my MAC from efh last sunday and submitted to adsl24 on wednesday (i think?), i've not given any notice of my intention to quit to efh, other than the MAC request.

would someone indicate whether i should give efh notice now, or will my MAC request suffice?

Yes you must inform efh/186k to close your account, send an email to them asap
Before they try to bill you for the coming month connection

Hi,

I migrated from EFH on friday and now my adsl24 connection is working I have sent an email to accounts@186k.co.uk with the subject migration away from efh complete.

Last time i checked my EFH connection was still alive and i paid until april the 4th so i would expect at least one month refund.

I didnt have a Direct Debit set up so at least they wont get any more money from me, if you do i would look into getting that cancelled.

Alex

Thanks, Mirage

BUT do it ONLY after your new connection is active, just in case of BT problems.

Lately, with these haven't got a clue, fly by night, Mickey Mouse outfits springing up all over the place - no names, no pack drill etc, but the numbers add up to 15 - it's best not to leave anything to chance, while they fail at provision, the suspicion is that they'll be extremely good at litigation. The suggestions are all good, wait for your new connection to go live and then immediately notify your old supplier, preferably by email and in writing as well as by ringing their accounts department ;) Be careful of the dates and timing or you may well be liable to make two payments in that month, one to your existing ISP and another to your other.

Don't do it yet, you must wait til your migration is complete As this email from 186k states when I got my mac.

If you choose to use your MAC Code and migrate away from EFHBroadBand.com, please contact us
once your migration to the new supplier is complete, this is so we can close the account and
stop the billing.

The account cannot be closed until that point otherwise the migration to your new supplier
will fail.

If you fail to contact us to confirm the migration is complete the account will continue to
be charged.

See? If I'd had an email like that one there'd have been no doubt. I got given a MAC, no comment, nothing, had to figure the rest out for myself.......

This is all very interesting but I'm not too sure whether ISPs actually do as they say or say as they do or something in between.
I recently helped a friend migrate from EFH/186. I applied and got his MAC within 3 days and immediately signed him up with adsl24 with a target connection date given for a week or so later.
On the day of the transfer his EFH logon stopped working. He had not contacted them. Irrespective of any notice time, EFH/186 stopped the service and he is entitled to a rebate for the unused part of his monthly payment. EFH/186 accounts department have confirmed this following an email from him stating that they had stopped the service.

all complete & ive emailed:

efh-admin@186k.co.uk,
accounts@186k.co.uk, and
medusa-mac-better-offer@support.186k.co.uk

to inform them i am no longer with them... woo hoooo!

everyone note this addy: efh-admin@182k.co.uk is incorrect, should be @186k.co.uk, not 182k.co.uk! alexlindley had a typo!

once again, thanks to you all!
