I've just done a speed test as I noticed some webpages were slow in loading up and was a bit shocked at the results!

Is it normal for my speed to drop so low during the training period?

They can fluctuate a lot during the training period, so I'd wait and see what they're like after the 10 days is up.

If you're training, you may be on a 2 Mbit profile for a few days. Best to try the BT Speed Tester (http://speedtester.bt.com/) which will give your profile. This often errors out, so patience is required.

I was on a 2Mb connection prior to coming here so I guess that might have something to do with it, although I'm not very knowledgable about the MAX product so it seems I'm on a steep learning curve here ;)

Thanks for the advice and will see how it pans out over the next week. Is there anything I should do such as re-booting my router or anything, as I seem to have read about elsewhere?

Just done the test on the BT speedtester and these are the results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1707 kbps

You me too!!
Having got my head around what the different results meant:
IP Profile: 6000kbps
DSL Connection Rate: 448/7296kbps
My actual IP throughput has been as high as 5730kbps and as low as 830kbps.
The profile and connection rate have remained constant since connection day last Friday.
I am assured that BT are trying out different speeds but I must admit to be somewhat concerned as the "norm", if you can have such a thing, is around 2600kbps.
My son, who lives about 100m away, synchs at over 7500kbps and his speed is usually over 6000. He is with BT.;)

What confuses me even more is that my router reports a totally different connection speed ...

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 17 db 10 db
Noise Margin 10 db 25 db

Or is this something completely different and not related to the actual speed I'm getting?

I would in my opinion leave the router on and wait for the 10 days to pass, your connection will go up and down like a nuns pants ;) did I say that :)

I had a similar experience recently - BT profile was 6500 but my speed was limited to 2 Mbits through Enta, but not when I used the old BT speed test. Best guess (Enta support never told me the facts) is Enta's servers had me pegged at 2 Mbits, either because of my migration or because of a retraining I started before I migrated. Fixed itself after a couple of days.
